“The Greatest Show on Grass”, otherwise known as the Phoenix Open, begins on February 1. This popular event debuted in 1932 and quickly turned into the best-attended event in golf. Proceeds from the event are used by the Thunderbirds to fund Special Olympics in Phoenix.
This year’s event will have limited fans and venues, but organizers of the event are still aiming to maintain their status as a world-class event.
Even if you don’t score tickets to the event, this is a great time of the year for golf in the Valley of the Sun.
One of the greatest features of Fountain Hills, the Verdes, and Fort McDowell is a collection of golf courses in a tight 8-mile radius. The golf lifestyle of this area is all about savoring the views and enjoying the serene outdoors in the Sonoran Desert.
All golf courses in the area are following recommended guidelines including personal hygiene and social distancing. Masks are required indoors at all facilities, but usually not required while outdoors. Most courses have removed bunker rakes, turned cups upside down, and golf carts sanitized after each game.
